Baboucha was established in 1983 in Barnet,
which lies on the borders of North London and Hertfordshire.
It's owner, Artemis Achilleos or Arty as he is known in the trade, is a third generation shoe maker with 40 year's bespoke shoe making experience behind him.
The business was based on the retailing and wholesaling bridal shoes, making handmade shoes
to the requirements of the individual, and for those that have problem feet and cannot buy
ready-made footwear, They also supply theatres, film and television companies with all
their footwear needs.
The company also services the couture world in London by making shoes and handbags in
customer's own fabric to match their chosen outfits. Shoe covering was introduced for
those who wanted to use their own shoes instead of having new ones made. A
"cheaper" range of silk and satin shoes were bought in and aimed at the bridal
market. These can be dyed to match any colour of fabric. As time went on, new bridesmaid
and pageboy ranges were introduced. Now Baboucha have the largest selection in London.
Their skills are shown when making footwear for the specialised market of television,
theatre and film, absolutely anything can be made from any period in time. "The show
must go on" is the company's motto, therefore delivery deadlines are always met.
Their Client List reads like the guest list to a Royal Garden Party, with famous names
from Royalty to a host of celebrities from around the world.
In 1986 they were commissioned to make the bridesmaid shoes for the Royal wedding of
Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.
As their shoes become more and more popular, Baboucha decided to offer their services to
other specialty shops rather than open more branches , therefore wholesale was introduced
in 1992. In a short period of time the company has grown from supplying shoes and bags to
the home market, to exporting their goods to 10 countries. Unfortunately the wholesale
shoe division ceased four years later as it found pursing bad debtors here and abroad was
unprofitable.
Baboucha has never forgotten its objectives to satisfy the client on his or her special
day. They boast that they can make "any style any colour any size". Their aim is
to keep their customers happy by delivering on time and, of course, making the best
quality possible.
The company started manufacturing their own handbags in 1996. By 1998 they became the
leading manufactures and suppliers of satin and silk bridal handbags in the UK.
In June 1999 Baboucha was commissioned by Samantha Shaw to re-cover Sophie Rhys-Jones'
wedding shoes. This was done with only 24 hours notice. Another Royal wedding was added to
their list of successes.
A decision was made in 2005 to relocate and work from a smaller workshop.
